And the Emmy goes to… Curt O. Schaller
Press Release: September 3, 2026
Following the Oscar: Curt O. Schaller receives Emmy for the ARRI TRINITY 2
Following the Oscar®, now comes the Emmy®: Curt O. Schaller (62), together with Dr. Roman Foltyn, is being honored with the Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) for the development of the groundbreaking TRINITY camera stabilization system (known as ARRI TRINITY 2®). The award will be presented to him on October 14, 2026, during the ceremonies at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in North Hollywood (USA). In April 2025, Schaller had already received the Scientific and Engineering Award (Oscar) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the concept, design, and development of the TRINITY camera stabilization system at the ceremony held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles (USA).
TheTRINITY camera stabilization system combines mechanical stabilization with state-of-the-art gimbal technology and has become an integral part of top-tier global productions. It has been used in feature films such as 1917 (2019), Mission: Impossible (2023, 2025), and One Battle After Another (2025). The industry also relies on this Munich-engineered technology for major global live events: from the Grammy Awards (2021–2025) and the Oscars (2024–2026) to the legendary Super Bowl halftime shows (2022–2026), as well as the world tours of Beyoncé (2023) and Taylor Swift (2023).
Curt O. Schaller comments:
„For me, the TRINITY project began as an idea in 2012 – building on what I had learned, on the one hand, as a cinematographer and operator regarding visual composition in film and TV, and on the other hand, through the decades-long development of the artemis camera stabilization systems. In 2013, the first implementation steps were taken using various technologies. Starting in October 2014, I further developed this vision in the form of the TRINITY camera stabilization system together with Dr. Roman Foltyn at Sachtler. Thanks to a highly motivated team, the production-ready TRINITY camera stabilization system was presented as early as 2015 at the IBC in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The fact that this journey, after moving to ARRI in 2016, has been recognized with the Oscar in 2025 and the Emmy in 2026 fills me with immense gratitude: My thanks go out to everyone who contributed to this – and to the operators worldwide who push the TRINITY to its limits every single day.“
